Serious art - with attitude!

Emerging under the captivating pseudonym 'Popawrx', this relatively new artist is already making waves on the art-scene with a compelling body of work. A deep passion for exploring the human condition amid social, geopolitical and environmental upheavals of our time, Popawrx best describes his collection as 'Serious art - with attitude!'He excels at capturing those fleeting moments in a world of ever-changing variables, encouraging the viewer to engage with and interpret the story through their own life experience.Popawrx contemporary style merges Realism with influences from the Pop Art movement of his era. He applies techniques employed by the great 16th and 17th century Italian and Dutch masters, alongside inspirations from Anglo-American pop culture while applying a distinctly Kiwi perspective. This fusion reflects a life-long passion for art history, philosophy, classical studies and a Gen-X upbringing in New Zealand during the 1960s through 80s.Popawrx distinctive subject matter and perspectives are rendered in oil or acrylic paints often on custom-sized, gessoed and hand-stretched canvas, linen or wooden panels. Each original work is in a uniquely designed frame, crafted by the artist himself to compliment his artwork.

The collection - so far!

Popawrx brings a unique Kiwi perspective to painting, believing art should be an immersive experience that makes you feel like you are part of the moment. His subjects are diverse, sometimes humorous, occasionally brutal, but always honest - reflecting a Gen-X childhood and his observations of influential people and events over the decades, that have shaped the world we live in today. His work blends interesting aspects of Pop Art culture, with Neo-Classical elements and Realism often featuring allegorical themes.Make no mistake - for the discerning collector this is one Kiwi artist to keep a look out for. Popawrx deserves to be an integral part of any serious art collection. But don't just take our word for it - you be the judge!
